Daytona 500 - Duck of the Day #265

Happy Sunday! Today is one of the biggest sporting events of the year - the Daytona 500. Unfortunately, there appears to be some weather issues (cars don't like the rain nearly as much as this rubber ducky does!) and it is currently being delayed.

This might be the first full blown postponement in the Daytona 500 history. If you're a NASCAR fan get your lucky ducks out, hopefully you'll still have a race to watch!

Miracle on Ice - Duck of the Day #263

Hey everyone! I'm not sure why, but the info we've been looking up for Duck's of the Day has been off by a couple days! Two days ago marks the 32nd anniversary of the Miracle on Ice. It's one of the defining moments in US sports history, and one that we absolutely love imagining ducks participating in :-P

Hockey will always be close to our hearts (with the most will known duck-related team and everything!) and such a heartwarming comeback story makes it that much better!

The Alamo - Duck of the Day #262

Today marks the beginning of the Battle of the Alamo. It was one of the most pivotal battles in Texas and American history and has been one of the most remembered battles of all time. The numerous movies and accounts of the battle have made the names of the people involved, for many, childhood memories.

John Glenn's Orbit - Duck of the Day #261

Hello everyone! It's been a busy week and in all the hubbub we forgot to make a day for a pretty important event! Two days ago was the 50th anniversary of John Glenn's orbit of the earth. 1962 was part of an important time in American and world history and this trip was an integral part of it!

Grammy Awards - Duck of the Day #251

Hope you all are excited for tonight! It's the Grammy Awards Show! It'll be airing at 6PM (mountain time) and it's sure to be filled with quite a bit of excitement, with over 75 awards to give away.

First U.S. Hospital - Duck of the Day #250

Today marks the opening of the first hospital in the US. The title belongs to the Pennsylvania Hospital, opened by Benjamin Franklin in 1752. Of note, the first matron was actually a Quaker, not a Quacker (as the picture might suggest!). The hospital is still around today, serving those in the Philadelphia area.

Plimsoll Day - Duck of the Day #249

Have you ever wondered why metal boats don't sink? Well, it has a little to do with today. It's Plimsoll Day! Samuel Plimsoll devised the Plimsoll line, which you see on the sides of ships. These lines help shippers tell how much stuff (probably these rubber ducks) they can put on the boat without worrying about it sinking!

Even the best shaped boat can sink if you fill it with enough!

Grand Central Terminal Opens - Duck of the Day #241

In 1913, on February 2, Grand Central Terminal opened to the public. It was a marvelous feat of engineering and art work (and remains so to this day). It epitomizes the history of American rail as well as New York City.

Being the 99th anniversary of such a wonderful event we decided to share. Hopefully you all have safe travels through the 100th anniversary and beyond!

Oh, and don't forget to take a rubber duck with you whenever you travel. This one would be perfect for the trains, but we have ducks for any type of travel! :-)
